A project or package of projects may be treated as a water efficiency project if the project or package of projects saves water:

  1. by reducing transmission losses, evaporation or system inefficiencies; or
  2. by achieving either or both of water management and environmental improvements in diversions from the River Murray System, the Murrumbidgee River System and/or the Goulburn River System.

The scope of activity for a water efficiency project includes:

  1. conducting feasibility studies and detailed designs
  2. carrying out environmental assessments
  3. obtaining necessary planning approvals; and
  4. carrying out post-project monitoring to assist in the verification of water savings.
