Estimated Saving to be Allocated to the Snowy River - 18 GL/Annum

The Lake Mokoan project encompasses a broader group of interrelated projects to produce water savings that will be shared between The Living Murray Initiative (managed by Murray Darling Basin Commission) and Water for Rivers.  Evolution of the project, in particular the community consultation process, has extended the timeline on these projects.

One of the major offset projects, the Tungamah pipeline, has recently been completed. This project replaced 520 kilometers of leaky earthern channels with 360 kilometers of pipelines, linking the entire Tungamah domestic and stock system between Shepparton and Yarrawonga. At the completion of all offset packages, 18.0GL per annum of water savings is anticipated to be available for transfer to Water for Rivers in 2008 - 2009. This is additional to 990ML from the Broken River as part of this project completed in 2006 - 2007 (see Completed Projects).
