Swan Hill Area
Estimated Saving - 1.5 Gigalitres
The Woorinen Irrigation System supplied water through 33 kilometres of concrete lined channels and 20 kilometres of earthen channels to 200 properties.
The original system was developed to provide water to a range of irrigated farming enterprises including stone fruit, vine, market garden crops and pasture. The 200 properties range in size from 0.1 hectare to 294 hectares.
The Woorinen Pipeline Project replaced this system by constructing:
- 294ML/day pump station adjacent to the River Murray
- 1.3 kilometres rising main & associated service tank
- 60 kilometre of distribution mains
Benefits of the scheme:
- More reliable and better quality water
- Water efficiency savings of 1.5 gigalitres per annum which can be used for environmental flows
