Alternate Water Supply - Forest Creek, NSW

Forest Creek from Rhyola near Deniliquin to Moulamein

Realised Water Saving - 11.3 Gigalitres

(30 March 2005)

This project was developed to return water to the environment by reducing replenishment flows below Warriston Weir from 36.5 gigalitres to 25 gigalitres per annum, thus returning 11.5 gigalitres of water to the environment.

This system which was proposed by the landholders, involved providing alternative stock and domestic water supplies to landholders and returning an artificial stream to its original wetland state.

Benefits of this project:

  • return Forest Creek below Rhyola to natural ephemeral stream flood flows
  • positive environmental outcomes for habitat and sustainability
  • improve the overall operational efficiency of the Billabong/Yanco Creek system while generating water savings
  • secure water supply to landholders
