West of Griffith
Estimated Saving - 10 Gigalitres
Wah Wah Water District has a total area of approximately 3,000 square kilometres. The district includes an irrigation area of some 630 square kilometres where broad area crops are grown. The remaining area consists of the stock and domestic water supply system.
Given the length of channels in the Wah Wah District, significant losses occur through seepage and via evaporation from the channels and farm storages.
The project is the conversion of a small open channel delivery system which covers an extensive area supplying many dryland farmers, to a more efficient pipe system.
Benefits of the conversion:
- More reliable and better quality water to farms and businesses
- Increased opportunity for the restoration of the ecological system of the Mirrool Creek Floodway ephemeral wetlands
- Opportunities to return water efficiency savings to the river systems as environmental flows.
