Woorinen Pipeline - Pressurised Horticultural Irrigation Supply System - Victoria

Water Saved 1,500 ML (1.5 GL)

Victorian High Reliability Entitlement

The Woorinen Irrigation System near Swan Hill, supplied water through 33 kilometres of concrete lined channels and 20 kilometres of earthen channels to 200 properties.

The original system was developed to provide water to a range of irrigated farming enterprises including stone fruit, vine, market garden crops and pasture. The 200 properties range in size from 0.1 hectare to 294 hectares.

The Woorinen Pipeline Project replaced this system by constructing:

  • 294ML/day pump station adjacent to the River Murray
  • 1.3 kilometres rising main & associated service tank
  • 60 kilometre of distribution mains

Benefits of the scheme:

  • More reliable and better quality water
  • Water efficiency savings of 1.5 gigalitres which can be used for environmental flows
  • Regional growth, farm diversification, commercial stonefruit opportunitis servicing more than 1,000 ha of previously unirrigated land
