Improved Flow Measurement - Goulburn River Irrigation Areas, VICEstimated Water Saving up to 2,000 ML (2 GL) Victorian High Reliability Entitlement This project involves the installation of accurate measurement devices at strategic locations (major off-takes and outfalls) throughout the four irrigation districts of the Goulburn System so that less efficient parts of the systems can be identified. This project has been described as an "enabling" project that will assist in the identification of future water savings projects and provide a more accurate basis from which post project water savings can be calculated. It is anticipated however, that the improved metering accuracy and real time data availability obtained through these projects will result in water savings mainly from reduced outfalls through improved operations. The structures installed would form part of future channel automation works. It has been estimated that the possible amount of water savings from reduced outfalls that could be directly reduced by this project could be within the range of 1.4 to 3.1 GL. The projects expected to be completed within the 2006 - 07 financial year, but savings will not be confirmed until 2009 - 10. Water for Rivers has agreed to contribute to the project in partnership with the Victorian Water Trust. |
