Bungunyah - Koraleigh Pipeline

Water Saved 3,015 Entitlements (3.015GL)

Murray River General Security Entitlement

The Bungunyah-Koraleigh Irrigation Trust is situated 30km north-west of Swan Hill on the NSW side of the Murray River. The Trust delivers irrigation and stock and domestic supplies to its 72 rate payers, and also provides stock and domestic supplies for neighbouring landholdings and the township of Koraleigh.

The Trust has operated an open channel system for water delivery over an area of 733ha since it was constituted in 1927. Despite some recent areas of upgrade, the channel system has deteriorated over time and experiences high losses through evaporation, seepage and leakage. With low water allocations during the recent drought, water delivery through the channel system became more difficult and less secure.

In return for 3,015ML of general security entitlement, Water for Rivers has invested in the construction of a new low pressure pipeline and pump station to better meet the needs of the irrigation businesses and households that rely on water delivery via the Trust.

The pipeline will ensure that all Trust customers receive their water entitlement, even in times of drought. The pipeline will have important environmental benefits due to reduced seepage and leakage, and will give farming businesses within the Trust area more certainty to invest in new technologies on farm.
