Deniliquin Golf Club Water Efficiency Project

Deniliquin Golf Club Water Efficiency Project

Water Saved: 238ML (0.238GL)

Murray River General Security Entitlement

Ongoing drought conditions in the Riverina area of NSW has provided the catalyst for the Deniliquin Golf Club to seek investment in a more diverse and secure range of water sources from which to irrigate the course. In the past the Club has relied on water from the adjacent Edward River, but a range of dry seasons has meant that water allocations have been running at historically low levels.

The Deniliquin Golf Club Water Efficiency Project involved an investment from Water for Rivers to construct a 30ML storage dam and associated pipeline installation to allow storm water from the adjoining Deniliquin township to be collected, stored and recycled on the golf course.

This project has not only created water savings but has also meant that the quality of storm water entering the Edward River is improved. Some of the water collected in the storage will also be used to provide environmental flows into Aljoes Creek, a natural water course that runs through the golf course property.

The Golf Course is an important community asset for Deniliquin and this has been demonstrated through the Club's ability to raise enough community funds to complete the installation of a groundwater bore to further reduce the Club's reliance on river water.
