Bundidgerry Creek SystemEstimated Water Savings - 2,000 ML (2.0 GL) Bundidgerry Creek supplies water to Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA) from the Murrumbidgee River. Water flows through the Bundidgerry Creek system from Berembed Weir to a regulator owned and operated by MIA, 8km upstream from Narrandera. Water released from MIA's regulator flows through the Lake Talbot complex before passing MIA's meter at Narrandera. The creek system experiences losses during regulated flows as a result of evaporation from breakouts and wetland inundation. These losses are significant in the section both above and below MIA's regulator. A photograph of a shallow inundated area is shown below. The project has two parts; an initial investigation and collection of existing data including input from stakeholders, then the use of this data to prescribe an efficient management plan for the creek. Through this project State Water will identify options to construct new regulating structures and changes to the way the Creek is operated. The project has the potential to yield in the order of 2.0 GL (estimate only based on currently inundated wetlands areas) of water savings for an estimated investment of up to $6.0M, depending on the scope of civil works required. Main stakeholders in the project are Narrandera Council and MIA. Investigations commenced in the last quarter of 2009. A representative of Narrandera Council and MIA sit on a stakeholder reference group who will receive information about the investigation as it proceeds.
